Have you ever thought “I want to change my life”?
If you’re thinking of making changes in your life, it will be easier if you realise that your sub-conscious mind is a friend that can help make those changes more easily.
“Trust your hunches – they’re usually based on facts filed away just below the conscious level. “
Dr. Joyce Brothers, Psychologist
Given what you now know about how your mind works, are you really surprised by how difficult you find making the changes you want? It’s often a constant battle between the conscious mind wanting to move forward and the much more powerful sub-conscious mind seemingly holding you back and tripping you up.
But happily, there are easy ways to make changes:
Firstly, through repetition, where over a period of time some new way of behaving moves from the conscious mind to the sub-conscious mind. When you learn to do something it may seem incredibly difficult or complicated, but with practice it becomes easier and eventually becomes so automatic you don’t give it a second thought.
Secondly, is when there’s a very strong emotion associated with the change (and of course strong emotions come from the subconscious.) A good example is that feeling of being totally fired up and focused on a new project so that you just know that you’ll go through with it, or so excited about the prospect of something that you can’t wait to get started.
Thirdly, we can learn to trust ourselves and our feelings. Quite often when we’re taking decisions, we do so solely on the basis of rational thought, thinking through things, weighing up the odds – all things we do with our conscious mind. We too often ignore the feelings we have inside – what’s often referred to as our ‘gut feeling’ or ‘intuition’.
That isn’t some ‘airy-fairy’ notion, it’s your sub-conscious mind speaking to you, based on all the previous experiences you have stored away, all the learning you have, all the observations you’ve made; they’re all there in your sub-conscious and are activated when the time is right.
So when you’re making changes and your logic is telling you to do something but somewhere deep inside you’re just a little uneasy – be sensitive to what’s going on, trust yourself, your own feelings and your inner voices!
The more you start to use and trust your own intuition, the better it will serve you. Next Understanding the intention of our unconscious mind.
